Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
In short: SceneShield collects only what it needs to work: your Google sign-in details, the categories you choose to skip, and the scenes you flag. We do not track what you watch, we show no ads, and we never sell your personal data.
Who we are
SceneShield is a browser extension and website operated by Bertrand de Bouillé, an individual based in France (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at contact@sceneshield.app.
What we collect and why
- Google account details. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, your name and your profile picture, plus a unique account identifier. We use them to create and secure your SceneShield account. We never receive your Google password.
- Your skip preferences. The categories you turn on or off (for example Blood & Gore or Sexual Content), so the extension knows what to skip for you on any computer where you sign in.
- Scenes you flag. When you flag a scene, we store the Netflix title identifier, the start and end time of the scene, the category you chose, the date, and a link to your account. Your account link lets us review flags, prevent abuse and show you how many of your flags were approved.
- Title identifiers. To show flag counts and skip scenes, the extension sends the Netflix title identifier of the page you are on to our server and receives the approved scenes for that title. We do not store these requests against your account. Our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and request time) for a short period for security purposes.
What stays only on your computer: your sign-in session and the “scenes skipped for you” counter. These are kept in your browser’s extension storage and are never sent to us.
What we do not collect: your Netflix account, your viewing history, what you watch or when, your browsing on other websites, or any payment information. SceneShield only runs on netflix.com.
Legal basis
We process your account details, preferences and flags because they are necessary to provide the service you asked for when you installed SceneShield and signed in (performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Short-term security logs are kept on the basis of our legitimate interest in protecting the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Who we share data with
We never sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a few service providers who process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase hosts our database and handles sign-in. Our database is located in the European Union (Ireland).
- Google provides the “Sign in with Google” service.
- Infomaniak (Switzerland) hosts this website and our email.
Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, the transfer is covered by the safeguards required by the GDPR, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
The scene catalogue
Approved scene information (which title, at what time, which category) forms SceneShield’s catalogue. This information describes films and series, not people. It is shown to all users without any link to who flagged it, and it may be used to build and offer SceneShield products and services, including to other companies. Your personal data is never part of what we offer to others.
How long we keep data
- Your account, preferences and the link between you and your flags: as long as your account exists.
- If you delete your account, we delete your account details and preferences within 30 days. Scenes you flagged stay in the catalogue, or in review, without any link to you.
- Technical logs: a few days, as set by our hosting provider.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, or to delete your account. Email contact@sceneshield.app from the address linked to your account and we will answer within one month. You can also simply uninstall the extension, which removes everything stored on your computer.
If you think we have not respected your rights, you can complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), or to the authority in your own country.
Children
SceneShield is not intended for children under 15. If you are under 15, please ask a parent or guardian to set it up for you. If we learn that we hold data about a child under 15 without parental consent, we will delete it.
Google user data
SceneShield’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google sign-in data only to provide and secure your SceneShield account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, let you know in the extension or by email before they take effect. If SceneShield is transferred to a company we create, this policy and your data will move with it and we will tell you beforehand.
