Terms of Use

Last updated: October 5, 2026

In short: SceneShield is free and provided as is. Skips can miss or misplace a moment, so it is a comfort tool, not a guarantee. When you flag a scene, you let us use that information in SceneShield’s catalogue.

1. Who we are

SceneShield (the browser extension and the website sceneshield.app) is operated by Bertrand de Bouillé, an individual based in France (“we”, “us”). Contact: contact@sceneshield.app. By installing SceneShield or signing in, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

2. The service

SceneShield automatically skips short moments in Netflix titles that have been flagged as graphic or sexual, according to the categories you choose. Scene information comes from SceneShield users and is reviewed before use. The service is free.

SceneShield is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Netflix, and Netflix is a trademark of its owner. SceneShield does not modify, copy or store any Netflix content; it only moves the playback position in your own browser.

3. No guarantee

We do our best, but SceneShield cannot see the film itself. Many titles have no flagged scenes yet, flags can be imprecise, and changes on Netflix’s side can stop the extension from working at any time. SceneShield is a comfort tool. It is not parental control, and you should not rely on it to protect anyone from content that could harm them. The service is provided “as is”, without any warranty, to the extent permitted by law.

4. Your account

You sign in with your Google account and you are responsible for activity on it. You must be at least 15 years old, or have the permission of a parent or guardian, to use SceneShield. You can stop using SceneShield and ask us to delete your account at any time.

5. Flagging scenes

When you flag a scene, you confirm that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Do not submit false, misleading or abusive flags, and do not try to interfere with the service, overload it or access data that is not yours. We review every flag and may adjust, approve or reject it at our discretion.

Licence to your contributions. Scene information you submit (title, timecodes, category) becomes part of SceneShield’s catalogue. You grant us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, modify, combine, publish and commercially exploit that information, in any form, and to sublicense or transfer this licence, including to a company that may take over SceneShield. This licence continues if you delete your account; the information is then kept without any link to you. To the extent permitted by law, you waive any claim to payment for these contributions.

6. Our rights

SceneShield’s name, logo, software, website and the catalogue as a whole belong to us. You may not copy, extract or reuse the catalogue, or build a competing product from it, without our written permission.

7. Suspension and changes

We may suspend accounts that break these terms. We may change or stop the service, or update these terms. For important changes, we will let you know in the extension or by email before they take effect; if you continue to use SceneShield afterwards, the new terms apply.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, or for any harm resulting from a scene that was not skipped, was skipped by mistake, or from Netflix being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.

9. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. Please contact us first so we can try to solve any problem together. If that fails, the competent French courts will have jurisdiction, without prejudice to the mandatory protections of the country where you live. You can also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution resources.
